I do not know what is the difference between school years now and back in our parents’ and grandparents’ time, but I do think that also in the past and present existed Cool kids at school, and it is not going to change in the future, there will always be the Cool ones.
In my opinion the crucial years are from 10 to 18, especially in high school, and in the development of your personality it is very important to pay attention on yourself, what you can achieve during these years, because it is going to affect your adult life as well.
In reality who is Cool?
Nowadays (unfortunately) the smart kids who are willing to study are called squares, and eager beavers and are not called cool ones. And who does not care about school but has a loud voice can be cool.
To be cool it is essential to have self confidence, you have to feel comfortable, you have to represent strength while stay relaxed, have a positive perspective.
To have self confidence it is very important to have the adequate family background, when your family encourages you that you can achieve everything, that you are good in what you are doing. I am very lucky that both me and my Mom grew up like this. The base of your self confidence is the secure background, because you always know that somebody is always behind you and you can lean on them if needed. In case you do not have the family support, you can always turn to your friends or siblings.
Even when the kids start to grow up, even in the final years of school we need rules
Let’s see the general thoughts working in my life :-).
I would say that I considered myself a cool person (and it adds a lot to your self-confidence if you just decide to be cool 🙂 ), I was open, positive and relaxed enough to talk to everybody in class, I participated in planning and executing school events, I had a really good relationship not only with the popular classmates but also with the “square” ones.
I was classified into a rare type, the “Cool square” category. 🙂 I was studying hard, because I already had my goals, I had the supportive family background and group of friends (still have them), but I also had my role in the craziest events, what’s more, sometimes I started these. 🙂
The simpliest way to become cool is, that right at entering into a new community (school, sport team, art group etc.) you radiate self-confidence, openness and determination, be free and cheerful. Positive, smiling and joyful people draw the attention of others, because nobody wants to spend their time with depressed people. Happy people lift us up with their smile.
This is similar to the act when a new teacher arrives to the school and you have to perform really well on the first couple of classes to be considered the good student.
But, as good news are never news, let me share how I got kicked out of the cool group.
As you all know I have represented Hungary on the international beauty pageant Miss Earth on the Philippine Islands in 2014 and my high school classmates considered this as an unforgivable “sin”.
When I got home my mates from the school and my teachers all congratulated me and asked about my experience, but my own classmates simply acted like I turned into a transparent person. They barely talked to me, mostly they just whispered behind my back.
Probably my close group could not process the success of somebody else, why it was me who got this opportunity and not them. I think a lot of you have similar stories like me, if somebody comes from a small village, from the countryside, or from outside of Hungary and for example successfully participates in a talent show, most of the time their micro environment cannot handle it. You inspire the distant mass of people, but your close friends might envy you.
Luckily there is always an exemption, because one of my best friends is with me since kindergarten, we survived together the elementary school and high shool as well, and we are still best friends.
So the consequence from my story is that fitting into the average is also important to be cool.
I yet suggest that have your own plans, believe in yourself that you can achieve it and do it! The success will come!
Feel free to comment on my blog, share with me what type of groups do you have at school, how is your daily routine in the class, and what are your tips to survive every day there. How did you become a member of a school group or if you are the founder of any.
