Egypt has been the sight for our family holidays since I was 10.
Not even political changes or terrorist attacks changed this, when Egypt was a no go zone, and there were no flights from Hungary.
Why? Because they take care of their visitors, tourists are safe, the weather is predictable, you will probably never find yourself in a situation when it’s raining cats and dogs after paying for a fix date and looking forward to your holiday all year long. There is hardly any chance of it. There is rain, but the longest it lasted was 4 minutes. To top it all the sea is warm and your holiday budget is the same as the cost of a holiday at the Lake Balaton.
Since my father has a serious asthma condition, the major advantage for us is the climate, in Egypt he can practically stop using his medications, and be a healthy man.
Anyone who suffering from asthma must put Egypt on the list of holiday destinations, it is a great experience to see them breath without any difficulties and become energetic again 1-2 days after their arrival. Only those struggling with similar difficulties will understand this.
It is interesting by the way how much I love travelling with my parents and even my grandparents. Most of the teenagers after turning 16-17 give up travelling with their old folks saying it’s not cool. It is for me, and I love it, when I am 80, I will still be traveling with my 104 year-old mom. 🙂
The first place we ever went to Egypt was Sharm El Sheik, and we did not come to the other side because of the several shark attacks, nor because of the local political turmoil, but simply because the Sharm side has steep rocky shores, which is great for divers but not so much for families with little kids, and I was still little when we started going there. The Hurghada side was much more comfortable with its slowly descending sandy beaches.
Hurghada is still developing, and more and more hotel complexes are built to the South, today Marsa Alam is the most popular.
Our favourite is Makadi Bay, we have been coming back here for years.
In Egypt you can decide what type of holiday you wish to have, as there are tons of cultural sights to see, however, after a stressful year at work or in school, you may just want to lay on the beach and relax sipping a glass of CubaLibre, interrupted only by a massage.
Our personal favourite is a small hotel (Prima Life), where we practically “come home to”, we first visited here when it opened and now we have become friends with the workers.
I know there are two types of holiday makers, the first type would never go back to the same place for a second round, as they want to find new things, however the other type finds the perfect holiday spot and returns every time, exactly because everything becomes familiar after a time, so they can start relaxing and lay back from the minute of their arrival.
We know everyone in the hotel, as they practically saw me grow up, so they were very proud of me when I won Miss Earth Hungary, and then took part in the Miss Earth pageant… I was their queen 🙂
This is a small cosy hotel, the food is great and other holiday makers are also nice folks. Mainly from the Netherlands, Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland.
Mini Egypt is really close, if you see this, you can easily decide what else you want to visit, where else, you want to go.
It was quite sad when a couple of years ago, Egypt was put on the no go zone list both in Europe and in Russia, due to some evil guys, and for 1-2 years hardly any tourist came, so in Hurghada alone more than 100 hotels had to be closed. The countries main source of income is tourism, so that was a huge “drain” for them. I am really glad the flights headed for Egypt are packed again.
I really advise you to at least get familiar with the prices when planning your summer holiday, you would be surprised that for the price of a holiday in Hungary, and only a three and a half hour flight away, you can relax on a sunny beach. It’s a great experience!
